Musk teases releasing details of Twitter censoring Hunter Biden’s laptop: ‘Necessary to restore public trust’

Twitter CEO Elon Musk teased on Wednesday that he might release more information about how the social media company censored Hunter Biden’s laptop story during the 2020 presidential election.

News personality Alex LoRusso asked followers to “raise your hand” if they supported making “all internal discussions about the decision to censor @NYPost’s story on Hunter Biden’s laptop” public.

Musk replied, “This is necessary to restore public confidence.”

Several users agreed with Musk’s call for transparency, with some responding with a raised hand emoji.

One user even asked Musk to run another Twitter poll, citing other polls he’d taken to help shape Twitter’s direction.

David Freiheit aka Viva Frei called Musk’s response “an appropriate Thanksgiving commitment.”

Musk previously expressed his concerns about censorship of Twitter to the New York Post. In April, he called the procedure “incredibly inappropriate”.

When the New York Post report was first published ahead of the 2020 election, several social media companies scrambled to remove posts about the story, including Twitter and Facebook. Jack Dorsey, the former CEO of Twitter, has admitted that the social media platform was wrong to meddle in the Hunter Biden story.

Twitter censored the story, which they claimed at the time violated the company’s “Hacked Materials Policy”.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed earlier this year why Facebook suppressed the story during the election.

During an interview on “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Zuckerberg admitted that the FBI approached Facebook warning the platform about “Russian propaganda” prior to Hunter Biden’s heartbreaking story. The platform manipulated algorithms to prevent the story from being circulated, which Zuckerberg defended due to FBI warnings.

In addition to the censorship from Big Tech, several media outlets originally described the laptop as Russian disinformation. Dozens of former intelligence leaders and officials also signed a letter saying they believed the story was part of a Russian disinformation campaign.

Since then, several news outlets have independently verified the story.

CBS was the latest news organization to check the laptop story even though the New York Post’s original story was rejected. Nearly two years later, news outlets including The New York Times, Washington Post, NBC News, and Politico confirmed the story.

With pressure mounting on big tech companies and more liberal media outlets checking the story, Republican lawmakers are calling for answers on the laptop as well as censorship of the story. After taking control of the House of Representatives, Republicans shared their intention to further investigate Hunter Biden’s business dealings and look specifically at how his father, President Joe Biden, was involved.

After nearly two years of repression, new light has shone on Hunter Biden’s story, and Twitter has once again proven itself to be a major player in finding answers.
