The Hattula family in the St. Martin community kicked off the Christmas lights.
From now until New Year’s, you and your family can turn on 101.7 FM and drive to their home for a light show.
The address is 6917 Southwind Drive.
The radio station plays Christmas music synchronized to the light display.
The family spends more than 350 hours preparing for the show.
Every year the display grows and this year there are more than 72,000 lights and other changes.
“We have a second mega boom. there are two 27 foot mega trees. We added another one this year, each with about 4,000 lights. The arches in the driveway and down here on the side of the driveway are new. We added more candy canes and a few more ornaments and things like that,” said John Hattula, the homeowner. “To be honest, we no longer have room in our garden. I have spoken to my neighbor and we will expand there next year.”
Believe it or not, because the lights are LED, the Hattula family’s electricity bill stays fairly constant year-round.
Making the display is a hobby for Hattula.
He loves the happiness it brings to families who come to watch.
