Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2023 Coverage
The Swill government fully funded excellence scholarships provide the following benefits to all successful applicants;
- The scholarship is a monthly payment of CHF 1,920
- Only for non-EU and non-EFTA beneficiaries: the FCS pays the compulsory Swiss health insurance.
- There are no family benefits
- Scholarship holders from non-EU and non-EFTA countries will receive a flight allowance (flat rate) for a ticket back to their country of origin (issued at the end of the scholarship).
- Special housing allowance of CHF 300 (paid once at the start of the fair)
- Public transport card half rate for one year.
- Support services and various outings, dinners and tours organized for Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship holders.

Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2023 Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for any of these scholarships are only eligible if they possess the following;
- English language proficiency
- All world countries are eligible
- Master’s degree or equivalent university degree obtained before July 31, 2022 (degree) recognized by the Swiss university. As proof, the diploma must be submitted to the Federal Commission for Scholarships before the start of the scholarship.
- Applicants must have been born after December 31, 1987
- Applicants who have been in Switzerland for more than a year at the start of the September scholarship are not eligible.
- Applicants must provide a letter from a visiting academic professor (including her/his short CV) at the chosen Swiss university confirming why she/he is willing to supervise and support the research. Without this support, the application will be rejected.
- Applicants must have a research proposal including a time frame. This is the centerpiece of the application. The applicant must pay all due attention to it.
- Applicants must master the necessary language skills required for the research/studies.
- Applicants who have already benefited from a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship are not eligible for a second scholarship.
- Scholarship holders are expected to move to Switzerland during their scholarship period.
How to Apply for the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships 2023
Applicants must follow the instructions below to have their application processed;
- Signed FCS application form (typed and printed) with a full CV with lists of scientific publications, awards and letter of motivation (maximum two pages)
- A complete research proposal (max. 5 pages, signed), using only the FCS research proposal
- A copy of the letter from a visiting academic professor (including her/his short CV) to the chosen Swiss university confirming why she/he is willing to supervise and support the research.
- A short CV from the home institution’s academic mentor
- Two confidential letters of recommendation from two different professors in the applicant’s field (use only the FCS reference form – originals in sealed envelopes only for the 1st set) No copies for the 2nd set.
- Photocopies of certificates and transcripts from previously attended universities/colleges and diplomas with grades, starting with the most recent. If not in English, French, Italian or German with certified translations in English. Please hand in the original certificates.
- Signed medical statement (only use the FCS health certificate form).
- Two copies of the applicant’s passport (main personal data page) Dual nationals enclose copies of both passports. Applicants are already in Switzerland during the application process as a copy of the residence permit for Switzerland.
