The network issues that affected Jean Coutu pharmacies across Quebec for much of the day on Thursday have been resolved.
“Service has returned and the situation is stabilizing in our pharmacy networks,” said Catherine Latendresse, communications manager for Jean Coutu Group.
She thanked customers for their patience and indicated that pharmacy teams are working hard to resume all regular activities.
No information has been provided about the cause of the network problems.
Early Thursday morning, the pharmacy on Mont-Royal Ave. in Montreal’s Plateau neighborhood closed and staff turned people away. The telephone and computer systems were down, CTV News was told.
“I’ve never seen that in 30 years,” said a pharmacy owner from Boucherville, Que., whose branch was also hit.
According to a pharmacist, the IT system at a location in Lachine was completely offline, preventing staff from processing medication orders. However, that location was still open.
There were also system problems at Jean Coutu’s warehouse in Varennes, Que.
