Manchester United vow to support Cristiano Ronaldo following FA charge | Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United have said they will support Cristiano Ronaldo after he was accused by the Football Association of “inappropriate and/or violent” behavior over an incident at Everton last season.

Video footage shows Ronaldo smashing a fan’s mobile phone on the ground after United’s 1-0 defeat on April 9, which the Portuguese was warned about by Merseyside police. The FA said: “It is alleged that the attacker’s behavior after the final whistle was inappropriate and/or violent.”

After the incident, which took place as Ronaldo was on his way to the tunnel, the 37-year-old apologized on social media for his “outburst” and invited the supporter to watch a match at Old Trafford “as a sign of honesty, play and sportsmanship”.

After the game on his Instagram account, the Portuguese forward said: “It is never easy to deal with emotions in difficult moments like the one we face. Nevertheless, we must always be respectful, patient and lead by example for all young people who love the beautiful game. I would like to apologize for my outburst and, if possible, would like to invite this supporter to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair play and sportsmanship.”

Responding to the charges against Ronaldo, who has only started once this season under Erik ten Hag in the Premier League, United said in a statement: “We will support the player in response to the charges.”
