‘Cloverfield’ Movie Sequel in the Works, Babak Anvari to Direct – The Hollywood Reporter

Paramount Pictures has a new clover field film in active development, joined with Babak Anvari to direct the next installment of the hit franchise.

Joe Barton was previously brought on board by JJ Abrams and Paramount Pictures to write the screenplay for the sequel. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions banner is producing the franchise sequel along with Hannah Minghella and Jon Cohen.

British-Iranian director Anvari continues his feature debut Under the shadow of wounds, a psychological horror film starring Armie Hammer. The Abrams-produced horror hit clover field was released in 2008 and launched filmmaker Matt Reeves on the path of genre author.

Reeves is an executive producer involved in the sequel. The original clover field film was shot in the then-popular found footage style to reflect the growing ubiquity of video cameras.

It followed a group of 20-year-old New Yorkers as they tried to navigate the city during an attack by a giant monster. The film was made under the radar and used a viral marketing campaign to generate interest.

The original Cloverfield movie, made for $25 million, earned an opening weekend of $40 million and grossed $172 million worldwide. The clover field franchise brought the . on 10 Cloverfield Lane and The Cloverfield Paradox Photos, released in 2016 and 2018 respectively.

Bryan Burk and Drew Goddard will also executive produce for the latest sequel. Deadline Hollywood was the first to unveil the new clover field movie with Anvari to direct.
