Filmmaker SS Rajamouli, who is currently in the US promoting his latest film RRR, has signed a contract with US entertainment and sports agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA), Deadline reported Thursday.
Rajamouli has signed to CAA after the huge success of Jr NTR and Ram Charan starrer RRR who has earned over Rs 1000 crore worldwide.
RRR found a wider audience, including actors, filmmakers and film critics, in the US after its release on streaming platform Netflix. Its popularity is so great that it is now generating Oscar buzz. SS Rajamouli has even attended multiple screenings in America and addressed the public as part of his efforts to increase the chances of RRR at the 2023 Oscars.
During a question-and-answer session after RRR’s screening at New York’s IFC Center, Rajamouli revealed that he would love to win an Oscar, but it won’t change the way he takes an Oscar. story tells.
“Whether RRR wins an Oscar or not, my plan for the next film won’t change. Oscar will be a real boost to the morale of the (film) unit and the country itself, but that doesn’t change the way I work. I have to constantly upgrade myself as a filmmaker. I need to update my storytelling tools. That’s next to it. Earlier this week, however, RRR’s Oscar hopes in the Best International Feature Film category were thwarted after Film Federation of India (FFI) selected Gujarati film. Variance Films president Dylan Marchetti, who leads the campaign for RRR in the US, said the film will campaign for a spot in the Best Picture category. He added that it has a shot at Best Original Song (“Naatu Naatu”) category along with director, screenplay, cinematography, production design, editing and a few other categories.
